Rossi and Defkalion Energy Catalyzer Making Progress to Commercialization

1. Defkalion Visited by PESN

Pure Energy Systems - Defkalion's 5-45 kilowatt modular heat reactor is not yet a product you can go out and purchase, but it is getting close to the market. It will provide competitively-priced thermal energy, but with very low fuel costs for the nickel and hydrogen used in the reaction chambers that will last for six months of continuous output without refuelling.

In the coming few weeks, they will be having at least seven different groups come in to test their device, beginning with the Greek government next week. The results from each group will be published. Each group will have 48 hours to test the device and a control to which they can compare it.

They showed me the experimental set-up -- running, producing heat. It includes a control chamber and an active reaction chamber. After the two are run simultaneously -- one with the low energy nuclear reaction (aka cold fusion), and one without -- showing that the low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) system produces at least 20 times more heat; they will then switch the reaction chambers, removing the nickel and hydrogen from one (cleaning it out to make sure there are no residual elements), and adding these ingredients to the other chamber, which previously was the 'control' or 'blank' chamber; to prove that the data remain the same. They will also show that some gamma radiation comes from the reaction chamber of the LENR system, as evidence that a low level nuclear reaction of some kind is indeed taking place (though not on a dangerous level to those operating the test). The final product will be fully shielded to prevent emission of stray radiation.

Australian engineer says wiring errors may be responsible for alleged 'scam'

MSNBC is reporting an allegation that Rossi energy catalyzer fraud is enabled by power being supplied by a ground wire.

The MSNBC article is a reprint of an article by Life's Little Mysteries

In December, Rossi approached Dick Smith, an Australian entrepreneur, and asked him to invest $200,000 in the development of the E-Cat. Intrigued but skeptical, Smith asked Ian Bryce, an aeronautics engineer and member of the group Australian Skeptics (a group of which Smith is a patron) to help him investigate.

According to a report issued by the Australian Skeptics, Bryce found that in all six published tests of the E-Cat up to July — every test in which excess power production was directly measured — the setup was such that a misconnected earth lead (the wire that is usually grounded in an electric circuit ) could have been funneling up to 3 kilowatts of power into the machine's steam generator long after the other wires were turned off. Because there were no power meters measuring the flow of energy in the earth lead, all this energy would seem to be surplus, and would appear as if it were being generated by reactions within the E-Cat itself.

The scientists note that the miswiring could be inadvertent. "If one of the wires in the three-core power lead" — a lead with active, neutral and ground/earth wires, all of which flow to a different prong of a three-pin plug — "was accidentally misconnected, the actual measurements of current witnessed by two Swedish scientists would not be the total power going into the reactor, and there would be an apparent power gain. One of the scientists who observed an earlier test has now agreed this could be so," Smith said.

Celani Geneva LENR Presentation

22Passi an italian website covering LENR, cold fusion and the Rossi and Defaklion energy catalyzers has a 25 page presentation that Celani made at WSEC 2012 in January.

Progress, in the Condensed Matter Nuclear Science, on excess energy production: towards practical applications? by Francesco CELANI

Celani reviews his own work and the claims of others. Celani has not included the work at Brillouin Energy who claim to be getting hundreds of watts of excess heat and 210% energy gain. Brillouin is also using thin wires. Ahern has achieved better results than what Celani has listed.

Celani is getting up to 15% power gain and 26 watts using coated nanowires for 6 days at 900 degrees. He claims this is replicable, systematic and controllable.

In these weeks our group, working with long and thin wires having the surface coated with micro-nano-particles, get re-confirmation of a phenomenon, by us, seldom observed in some previous experiments: the specific alloy used (Cu-Ni), that usually has Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) of the resistance, if absorbs large amount of Hydrogen, changes to Negative TC. Such phenomenon is correlated to anomalous heat production and increases as the anomalous heat increases. If such key phenomenon will be kept under full control, because its behaviour can be observed with simple instrumentation, it can be open the door to systematic work, worldwide, to find the “optimal” material and operating point.

Celani has a colloquium at CERN. He will likely be presenting similar slides and work.

On the latest CERN announcement translated from 22passi

The official launch of the colloquium, which he (INFN Frascati) and Yogendra Srivastava (University of Perugia) held at CERN on March 22 next year, from 16.30 to 17.30, in order to provide the scientific community a "review of the major progress made since March 1989 and through experimental studies / theory, abnormal thermal / nuclear interactions observed in the force of isotopes of hydrogen (H, D), in the non-equilibrium with pure or alloyed materials (primarily Palladium, Nickel).

Most of the experiments - the statement continued by CERN - have used electrolytic environments at moderate temperatures (20-50 ° C). More recently have been used environments with gas at higher temperatures (between 200-400 ° C and even between 500-900 ° C).

Specific nanostructures have begun to play a crucial role both in basic studies because, as recently argued, in technological applications / industries.

A plethora of theoretical models have been proposed to explain the various anomalies experienced in LENR. It will provide a short description of a model of weak interaction, which purports to explain almost ALL the anomalous effects observed so far. "

In the link you sent to us by Celani also added to the webcast which will be streaming the event

Progress = Robust Results
* Better Instrumentation, Calibration and Controls
* Some Systematics Found & Verified for Heat Generation Experiments
* Nuclear Ash Measured & Correlated with Heat Production
* Many New Experiments Performed
* More Attention to Materials
* Improved Inter-Lab Reproducibility
* Continuous Activity & International Conferences

The infinite gain in the Ahern work is because there is no power put into the system. Celani is getting up to 15% power gain and 26 watts using coated nanowires for 6 days at 900 degrees

Cold Fusion with over ten times energy gain was demonstrated at MIT

Cold Fusion Times - As part of the IAP Course on COLD FUSION at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Mitchell Swartz, JET Energy, and Prof. Peter Hagelstein demonstrated cold fusion openly for scientists and engineers. The demonstration was a two day part of the detailed, yet overview, seven day course run by Prof. Hagelstein and Dr. Swartz, and followed the first open demonstrations of cold fusion at MIT in 2003. This JET Energy NANOR(TM) demonstrated a significant energy gain greater than 10, much larger than the previous open demonstration. This exhibition is also remarkable because it confirmed the role of the nanoengineered lattice in enabling the CF/LANR activity. It followed Prof. Hagelstein sharing his breakthrough explanatory theory of cold fusion during the first 5 days.

Note - there does not appear to have been a demonstration to convince skeptics. It was part of a class which appears not to be closely associated with MIT. The location for the demonstration was at MIT. The prior demonstration in 2003 showed an energy gain of 2.3. The power levels are not as high as Rossi is claiming. Detailed technical information has not been published on the 2012 demonstration. From pictures there appeared to be data recorded measurements.

Defkalion appear to invite truly independent third party tests of their multi stage LENR reaction device

Praxen Defkalion Green Technologies Global Ltd. (PDGT) is ready to further allow third parties to evaluate its core technology: a multi stage LENR reaction between Nickel and Hydrogen. (4 pages)

PDGT has successfully completed its scientific, technological and engineering steps necessary to sustain such a reaction with results exceeding a COP of 20 (20 times more energy out than what is put in) and with temperatures capable to exceed 650 degrees Celsius.

As it was announced in our November 30th Press Release, a series of third party tests on Hyperion products have been scheduled to be performed within the first months of 2012, immediately after our product’s certification. This announcement does not refer to such product tests.

Independent tests have already been scheduled. With this announcement, PDGT welcomes further requests from internationally recognized and reputable scientific and business organizations interested to conduct their independent tests on “bare” Hyperion Reactors.

This announcement is being discussed on the Defkalion energy forum.

Summary of what successful independent tests and commercialization means

Defkalion has announced that they will commercialize low energy nuclear reactions.
An energy catalyzer that produces over 20 times the power that is put into it. Just before commercialization later this year, Defkalion is inviting what appears to be truly independent third party tests.

This relates to the buzz about the Rossi energy catalyzer. Defkalion and Rossi were partners but then they split.

If this is proved and the commercial devices work as promised then the world will be massively changed. Over the next few years as factories spring up around the world, the basic energy technology will be transformed.

It would also mean access to space would be transformed with the energy source being millions of times more energy dense than chemicals. Energy prices over the next several years could fall by ten to one hundred times. This would cause a global economic boom. Concerns about air pollution, peak oil, resource limitations would fade as energy capacity and availability would increase by thousands of times. The air pollution issues would go away as coal and natural gas plants and engines for cars are all replaced.

Hyperion 21 page spec sheet from November 2011

Defkalion Green Technologies s.a. was established for the purpose to manufacture and release to the market products based on the Andrea Rossi E-Cat invention; essentially undertaking the path from invention to industrialization on a global scale. There is no government financing involved. Defkalion and Rossi then split and Defkalion developed their own low energy nuclear reaction process.

Rossi Interview Claims Energy Catalyzer submitted for UL product certification

In a Smart Scare Crow Show interview, Andrea Rossi, the inventor of the E-Cat (cold fusion energy catalyzer), announced many breakthroughs in the development of his technology, answered a wide range of questions, and shared many details regarding the upcoming ten kilowatt heat unit for home use.

UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES -- Rossi said that they have sent prototypes to UL, and they are working with them to get the home unit certified for "UL approval".

This was a major announcement. If they are at this state of development, it means they are very far along. This alone would be worthy of a feature story. As far as we know, this is the first exotic free energy technology that has been submitted for UL approval.

You don't submit something to UL until you have a final version. What is submitted to UL is what is taken to market. If any changes are made, they have to once again pass through the UL certification process, which takes several months.

NASA Zawodny clarifies his views on Rossi and Low Energy Nuclear reactions

NASA Zawodny clarifies his views on Rossi and Low Energy Nuclear reactions on his own website

There have been many attempts to twist the release of this video into NASA’s support for LENR or as proof that Rossi’s e-cat really works. Many extraordinary claims have been made in 2010. In my scientific opinion, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I find a distinct absence of the latter. So let me be very clear here. While I personally find sufficient demonstration that LENR effects warrant further investigation, I remain skeptical. Furthermore, I am unaware of any clear and convincing demonstrations of any viable commercial device producing useful amounts of net energy.

NASA has video confirming their belief in LENR and their research and Rossi claims to ahve started producing small Energy Catalyzers at $100-150 per kilowatt

1. NASA has a video from Joseph Zawodney and researchers at Langley which fully endorses Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENR) and indicates that the processes are real and energy generating. It is entitled "Method for Enhancement of Surface Plasmon Polaritons to Initiate and Sustain LENR.

Nyteknik coverage

Dr. Joseph Zawodny, Senior Research Scientist at NASA, states that the new type of nuclear reactions ‘has the demonstrated ability to produce excess amounts of energy, cleanly, without hazardous ionizing radiation, without producing nasty waste’.

NASA explains in the video that ‘this form of energy is also powerful, able to support everything from transportation systems to infrastructure’.

Rossi talks about Household energy catalyzer units starting in Fall of 2012 and talks with Home Depot

ColdFusionnow - Rossi claims that distribution to the public of household energy catalyzer units is expected to begin “in autumn of 2012” adding that “We are in talks with Home Depot for the diffusion distribution”.

“We have already started the sales of the industrial plants of 1MW, but now focusing on the household, we have to resolve the issue of certifications, and we are working on those, and we are organizing the production.

The target price will be between $1000-$1500 US for an E-Cat with a power between 10-20 kilowatts. Such an E-Cat is able to give the thermal energy and air conditioning for an average family house.

With this price, in a few months the E-Cat is paid back, and the expected life of an E-Cat is around 30 years.”

He believes that his team will be able to start production with one million units “in 2012 with the help of God.”

This is from an hour-long conversation between Rossi and the Achieve radio Cash flow show.

Energy catalyzer planned higher volumes and lowering unit prices

1. ECat World - Rossi says that 10,000 Home-based E-Cats Have Been Ordered The 10,000 unit threshold was required to make small domestic units at 400 Euro/kW viable.

2. Rossi has indicated that the current price of 2000 Euro per kw for the 1 MW plant pays back itself in 3 years. The expected life is 30 years.

They plan to lower the price with the increase of the orders, to allow more economy scale. Our target is to arrive within the year to 1000 Euro/kW

Defkalion has Rossi’s formula

Nyteknik - Tomorrow on Wednesday the Greek company Defkalion will present products similar to Andrea Rossi’s 'E-cat', claiming that the technology is developed in-house. But Defkalion earlier told Ny Teknik that it has 'the formula of Rossi'.
“Let’s say I have the formula of Rossi, but I’m not saying it officially. My scientists found a way to make it. They need three months.”

That is what Alexandros Xanthoulis, representative of Defkalion Green Technology’s owners, told Ny Teknik in a telephone conversation on August 5, 2011.

“I know what he’s got in the reactor, I know everything. It was a spectroscopy made by the University of Siena. (...) They tried his reactor without him understanding what they did,” he continued.

Rossi electricity generation claim is based on getting steam up to 450 celsius with Energy Catalyzer

Ecat World - Rossi claims - we have found a breakthrough with a primary fluid with which the reactors remain stable when we make steam at 450 Celsius. We are working on it together with our Customer. I am learning very much from him, and in particular I am learning from the person who made the test of the plant on October 28th. This person, now retired, is an engineer who used to test for military concerns thermic plants and missiles, so that he has a tremendous experience in thermodynamics. Here is to learn really and, honestly, when it turns to learn I am pretty fast. This collaboration is accelerating the development of the technological declinations.”

The retired engineer Rossi mentions is Domenico Fioravanti, the consultant that was sent by Rossi’s military customer to test the first 1 MW plant in Bologna. Now it looks like the two are working together to find ways to make these 1 MW plants (the military entity has ordered 12 more) produce electricity and steam, and Rossi is evidently learning a great deal from Fioravanti, and he seems to be very happy about the collaboration.

Defkalion (once Rossi partner and now competitor) will have their big announcement of products on Wednesday, November 30 (tomorrow).

Rossi claims he will generate electricity from the Energy Catalyzer within one year

In the recent interview that Andrea Rossi gave on the Tom and Doug radio show, Andrea Rossi revealed that on November 11th he had made an important breakthrough with regards to the production of electrical power from the energy catalyzer.

Ecat World - Rossi said in the interview that production of electricity from the E-Cat has always been for him a major target and that “it will take, until the last week I said a couple of years, but today I can say one year because today, just today, (I don’t know because today is 11.11.11) we have resolved a very big problem which has made very short the time remaining to be able to produce also electric power, beside heat and cool with these apparatuses.”

Rossi provided no details about the nature of the breakthrough, but being able to make electricity efficiently would add a whole new dimension of usefulness of his invention, and would bring ever closer the dream that many people have of being able to have a complete power plant in ones home — heat, cooling, and electrical power from one unit. The revolutionary nature of such a technology is difficult to overstate, and if this could be achieved within a year, we could be looking at a very different world in the near future.

Massachusetts state government meeting with Rossi and MIT for two days of meetings

According to Sen. Bruce Tarr, Andrea Rossi, "the Italian scientist who claims to have developed the world's first nuclear cold fusion reactor is coming to the State House tomorrow to explore the prospects of developing the device and producing it in Massachusetts." Tarr's office says Rossi plans to visit Tuesday morning for two days of meeting with government officials and representatives of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University Massachusetts and Northeastern University. "Mr. Rossi's reactor, if successfully proven and developed, has the potential to change the way the world deals with energy," Tarr said in a statement.

Brian Josephson who supports cold fusion asks Rossi to do a scientific test wtih UK Energy Department

Brian Josephson, Nobel prize winner for physics in 1973, highlights the UK energy department (DECC) interest in Andrea Rossi's E-Cat and invites the inventor to reconsider the idea of a scientific test.

Previously in June, 2011, Nobel Laureate Brian Josephson who is Emeritus Professor of Physics, and Judith Driscoll Professor of Materials Science, both at Cambridge University provided support for Rossi's work in a video (which is below).

Dear Andrea,
It appears that the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), unlike its US counterpart, has an open mind regarding your reactor, and acting upon Francesco Celani's suggestion from the Focus magazine's pages is likely to have a beneficial outcome by dispelling any doubts they may have. Is not the likelihood of endorsement from an institution such as the DECC of interest to you?
Regards, Brian Josephson

Defkalion claims to have what they call final energy catalyzer products to be revealed in 15 days

Defkalion not only continued our [energy catalyzer] program but we are almost ready, with technology that is ahead of Rossi during a year. Specifically, within the next 15 days there will be announcements and initiated testing and certification by independent third parties. We will present the final product - not just a laboratory prototype - with all its subsystems to operate according to European safety standards. "

"And the catalyst? Isn't that supposed to be a Rossi secret ?"

All the technology used in devices Hyperion at the kilowatt level, and systems at 1 Megawatt to 5 megawatt are our own design. They different from those of Rossi" he replied. "As for the control, was already our own design and construction, and Mr. Rossi has signed acceptance certificate shows that it is ours. Even in the recent trial in October when he used some modules of our own design. However, the main and big difference in our device than that of Rossi is that our system is stable in performance, while that of Rossi or the last test failed to yield stable for more than five and a half hours. Catalyzer description at new Leonardo-ecat website

Rossi has a new website http://www.leonardo-ecat.com
The site has the involvement of Hank Mills and Sterling of PESN (Pure Energy Systems Network).
The site has descriptions of how the energy catalyzer is supposed to work, the 1 MW unit and an upcoming 5 KW version.

Leonardo Corporation is offering one megawatt E-Cat plants for sale, that are capable of producing hot water, or low temperature steam. These plants consume small quantities of nickel powder and hydrogen gas, to produce vast amounts of continual power - up to one megawatt of output in the form of heat. They require infrequent refueling (once every six months), and can operate 24 hours a day, regardless of weather conditions or external environmental conditions. In addition, they emit no pollution, do not release any radiation, and do not utilize any radioactive or hazardous substances. The one megawatt plants offered can operate with a "drive" (continual input power) that is a fraction of the output power, or in a "self sustained" mode. In the self sustained mode, a one megawatt plant can operate at full power, while consuming a miniscule amount of electricity to operate fans, pumps and radio frequency generators. These radio frequency generators help stabilize and sustain the nuclear processes, so the reactor can continue functioning with almost zero input.

An auxiliary power source of 250 kW will be needed to start up the plant, bringing the resistive heaters up to temperature.

The heart of an E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) is the reactor core. This is the metal tube in which the cold fusion nuclear reactions take place. Due to the high power density of the E-Cat technology, extremely large reactor cores are not required. Most E-Cat reactor core models have an internal volume that is smaller than a can of soda. Others are as small as a D-Cell battery, with an internal volume of around 50 cubic centimeters.

In the tube that composes the reactor core, a small quantity of specially processed, micron grain sized, nickel powder is placed. The nickel powder has been enriched in two specific isotopes (Ni-62 and Ni-64) via a proprietary and cheap method that only adds 10% to the final cost of the raw material. Enriching the nickel powder in Ni-62 and Ni-64 is important, because it is these two isotopes that undergo the most nuclear reactions.

National Instruments signs to do E-Cat controls

Pure Energy Systems News - Andrea Rossi signed an agreement with National Instruments to have them make all of the instrumentation for the E-Cat cold fusion plants, which began to be sold commercially on October 28 with the first 1 MW plant successfully tested in Bologna.

The 1 MW plant, which is the size of a small shipping container, and said to produce about as much power as a small locomotive, is made up of around 100 modules, each containing three reactors acting in parallel that combine hydrogen and nickel (a special micro powder preparation) into copper in the presence of a proprietary catalyst and a radio frequency stimulator, beginning at around 450 degrees Celsius. The initial heating is supplied electrically from resistive heaters. Once the nuclear reactions commence, the start-up electrical energy source can be disconnected, and the self-sustaining reaction can be controlled by the amount of hydrogen pressure supplied to the chamber.

Latest statements from Rossi on his plans for the energy catalyzer

Ecat World summarizes recent Andrea Rossi energy catalyzer comments from The Journal of Nuclear Physics site

1. Leonardo Corporation will be the sole manufacturers of the E-Cat reactors. Until now these reactors have been made by hand, but Rossi has said this process will be automated. Rossi has mentioned having plants or offices in Miami, Boston and Manchester, NH.

2. Outsourcing will be done for other components.

3. 10 per cent of pre-tax profits will be spent on research and development.

4. Leonardo Corporation will have employees who will recharge the units on site, and spent reactors will be returned to treatment units which will be located strategically for regeneration. This policy and service is a Rossi attempt to keep the secrets of the units for a longer time. However, groups could still buy the units and then perform the testing needed to determine what is happening when no one is on site.

5. Leonardo Corporation will possibly eventually become a public company. About this, Ross has said “Probably we will sell shares to allow everybody to participate to this enterprise. But before this we have to consolidate our manufacturing and commercial system.”

6. While production of the 1 MW plants is already underway, it appears that Rossi’s priorities are to produce home heating units and electrical generator — both of which he estimates will take two years to achieve. He also says he has a ‘duty’ to use E-Cats for desalination — which his technology is ready for now.
