Once you figure out that they are ads, then you can just ignore them. It's not that bad. I might try doing it on my blog in the future, assuming I get more visitors than I currently do. My blog has some themes in common with this blog (futurism, but with a focus on the brain and neurotechnology).

I hate those kinds of ads categorically. They don't look that different from a link so I frequently get "fooled", their content is almost always completely irrelevant, and they make you look like some SEO blog designed to turn words into dollars. Ads should be in well-defined locations and easily ignorable (but also easily findable if you actually are shopping for something).

I've been enjoying your blog for a month or two now (Thorium dragged me in). Clever use of the "if three other people agree" tactic.

It is an automatic placement of rollover context ads. So if you do not rollover the highlighted words which look different than a link then there is no ad and they have been running for over a month and close to two months.

I am not particularly attached to having them (a bit of an experiement) so if three other people agree that they should be removed then I will do so.
