The four who said they would "respect" the central government's judgment were the mayors of three villages--Tomari in Hokkaido, Higashidori in Aomori Prefecture and Kariwa in Niigata Prefecture--and the mayor of the town of Genkai, Saga Prefecture.
2. Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda suggested approval may be given to operate the nearly completed No. 3 reactor of a nuclear power plant in Shimane Prefecture.
The reactors under construction include Electric Power Development Co.'s Oma nuclear power plant in Aomori Prefecture, and the No. 1 reactor of Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Higashidori nuclear plant. Work began on the latter in January 2011, but has not moved forward since then.
Noda reiterated that local consent will be secured before the government decides whether or not to resume operating reactors idled for routine checkups.
